Summer Camps - General Information and Selection Process

Summer camps are a great experience to compliment the training and activities that we have at our squadron.  Please read the information below to see what is available to you and to learn how to maximize your chances of being selected for a summer camp.

Unfortunately, we are not able to send each and every cadet to summer camp.  The number of spots available at all of the summer camps in Canada are about 30% of the total cadet population.  We do work very hard to send as many cadets as possible whenever a spare slot becomes available.

 

 

Squadron Selection Process

For the past several years, we have used a scoring system as part of our selection process to select cadets for summer camp.  The cadets who have more points have a greater chance of being sent to camp.  We think it is a very fair and unbiased system. 

 

Criteria that are used to assess cadets may include:

​

• Attendance during Mandatory Training Nights (Mondays)

• Participation in mandatory citizenship activities (Ex: Remembrance Day Ceremony)

• Participation in fundraising activities

• Participation in optional training

 

Other factors are considered for camps with specific selection criteria.  For example, the Fitness and Sports Instructor course requires a minimum level of fitness, so we use a fitness test to further aid in our selection.  Another example is the Rifle Coaching Course.  We will give a higher priority for cadets who participate regularly in our marksmanship program.

Available Courses

 

The courses available to the cadets is based on their level of training.  Also, some courses have age requirements or other criteria that need to be met.

• Basic Fitness and Sports Course

• Basic Survival Course

• Basic Musician Course

• Basic Aviation Technology and Aerospace Course

 

Courses for Level 3 and up cadets:

• Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course

• Advanced Aviation Course

• Glider Pilot Scholarship Course (need to pass a qualifying examination.  Must be 16 by September 1st of the year of the course)

• Fitness and Sports Instructor Course (also require to pass a fitness test)

• Survival Instructor Course

• Intermediate Musician Course

• Advanced Aviation Technology Course - Airport Operations

• Advanced Aviation Technology Course - Aircraft Maintenance

• Advanced Aerospace Course

• Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course

 

Courses for Level 4 and up cadets:

• Power Pilot Scholarship (need to pass a qualifying examination.  Must be 17 years old by September 1st of the year of the course)

• Advanced Musician Course

• Staff Cadet (Cadets must be 16 years of age by January 1st of the year of the camp)
