Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are there any costs involved?

No!  There are no enrolment fees, no membership fees, and no costs for uniforms.  You can be a cadet for a full six or seven years and not spend one penny.  The only thing you may need money for is spending money when on trips or at dances.

Although there are no direct costs, we do ask that cadets participate in our fundraising activities.  We normally only have three to four fundraising activities per year, so it is only a bit of your time that is needed.  Cadets who do not participate in fundraising activities may find themselves not selected to participate in certain activities (ex: end of the year trip) in the event that space is limited due to limited funds.

Am I expected to join the military afterwards?

No!  Our goal is to give youth a chance to have fun, make friends, learn skills and become good citizens.  We encourage an interest in aviation in general, but this does not mean that you need to follow a career in aviation at all.

Who teaches and supervises the cadets?

The uniformed officers who administer the program are part of a branch of the Canadian Forces Reserves called the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC).  There are also Civilian Instructors (CI) as well who help out the staff.  All of the staff have passed security clearances to work with the cadets.  Our goal is to make sure the cadets have a great experience and learn useful life skills.  Most of us were cadets ourselves when we were younger!
